Gorgeous! Have you always had long hair or did you start a hair journey and get to this point?

    Hi,

Well as a child/teen due to my mostly rough handling, my hair never grew past bra-strap length. It wasn't until as an adult, I manage to grow my hair while relaxed, down to my waist by just simply oiling my ends and being gentle. And so that made me wonder, if I can care for my relaxed hair so well then why not do the same for my natural hair. I then transitioned for 3yrs and managed to grow it to hip length during that process. Now as a natural it is at butt length.
So the moral of the story is that my hair began to thrive once I started caring for it.

And care for it you did! :-)....when caring for your ends do you trim them bluntly, or do you do the search and destroy method, and how often? And how often do you wash/style your hair, and what are your favorite go to style? Sorry, for all the questions however I try to learn as much as possible from people who have be been successful, with their hair journey. :-)

Don't worry about the questions, ask as many as you like! That's what we're all here for right? To learn, help and share.

I do the search and destroy method and it is done as needed. If I were to count the times, probably every 3-4 months. For example if I am detangling my hair or re-braiding my hair at night, and I notice frayed or split ends, I will cut them.

The goal is to wash and detangle 1x a week because it allows me to spend less time detangling. But it doesn't always work out that way LOL. I only thoroughly detangle on wash days. In between those times I lightly finger detangle when re-braiding at night. The longer I wait to detangle, the more shed hair accumulates and so the longer it takes to detangle. This is the case because the shed hairs tend to tangle on themselves and the on the rest of the hair, and this can sometimes cause matted hair depending on how often I wear my hair down. For the most part I shampoo and detangle every 2 weeks sometimes 3 weeks. My scalp is forgiving since I never put anything on it and I use simple products like oils, sheabutter and conditioner.

My favorite styles are braid-outs, buns, braided buns, pony tails, simple lazy styles. On a daily basis, it takes me under 5 minutes to style because the braid-out texture keeps my hair clumped together and organized. Also, I do not use combs or brushes just my hands to smooth my hair. I may occasionally use a wide tooth comb for detangling only. On wash days I initially set my hair with 4-6 braids and I won't take them down until fully dried. Depending on what I'm doing I sometimes leave the braids in for days. Then to maintain the braid-out texture I just re-braid at night anywhere from 1-3 braids, sometimes a loose bun when lazy.
